Coaching Problems: Moffett vs. Rice

In order to be an exceptional coach, you must strive to build your team up, not tear them down. You cannot verbally or mentally abuse your team, just because you are unsatisfied your team’s performance. You must work with them to get better. Unfortunately, both coaches did not find that necessary and now they are suffering the consequences for their actions.

Coach Moffett, telling his players to “grow a pair” and criticizing some of their girlfriends by stating, “If she made or wanted you sit with her, then she is a high maintenance, selfish pig and you should dump her now and if you wanted to sit with her and ignore your brethren on the floor, then join [a former Prep student who since has transferred] at mercyworst!” was completely unnecessary. As a coach, his job is to coach his team in the area of his specified sport, not to give dating advice and attack the players personally. Though this coach did use bad judgment, I personally do not think that this is anything to fire him over. He should possibly be given a lecture by his superiors on his roles on being a coach, but considering that he has been a longtime coach, and from the information provided in the articles, has not been in any other serious trouble, I do not believe he should not lose his job.

Mike Rice, the coach who ‘hurled basketballs from close range at his players' heads, legs and feet; shoving and grabbing his players; punching them; kicking them; and shouting obscenities,’ is involved in a completely different situation. This coach physically and verbally attacked his players, many times when they were not even doing anything wrong! His actions were unjustifiable, and definitely should have been fired.
You could make the arguments that the actions of these coaches ‘fire up’ their teams, and that there strong criticism will lead to a better team, but that is simply not true. When you start to get into the personal lives of players, or tear down your team, even resulting to abuse on a regular basis, you are not helping anyone. If anything you are causing more damage.

In conclusion, I think that the end results for these coaches’ inappropriate behavior were fair. Moffett should have been suspended, and Rice should have been fired, as they were. As a coach, you must work to build your team up, destroy them. Maybe one day, both of these coaches will learn the value of that.

Is Abortion a Right?

Many liberals and feminists claim that abortion is a woman’s right, but what about the baby’s rights? In the case of Roe vs. Wade, the Supreme Court ruled 7-2 that a Texas state law that banned abortions, except to save the life of the mother, was unconstitutional under right to privacy under the due process clause of the 14th Amendment. The Court prohibited states from regulating any aspect of abortion in the first trimester of pregnancy, and could enact laws protecting the life of the fetus only in the third trimester. Their decision was very controversial, even to this day, because abortion is not mentioned in the Constitution, and the procedure didn’t even exist! How could the Supreme Court of the United States call a procedure a Constitutional right, when it is not even mentioned in the document?
After studying the beliefs of the founding fathers, you can easily come to the conclusion that they would have been pro-life. While drafting the declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson wrote “[We are] endowed by [our] Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” Not only did he say that life is a right, but that it is ‘unalienable,’ meaning that it cannot be taken away or denied. Now, it can be.
Abortion does not only deny a person their right to life, but it is also an extremely barbaric and inhuman procedure. When conducting an abortion on a 23-week old fetus, the abortionist inserts a large toothed grasping clamp into the womb and begins pulling out limbs at random, separating them from the baby’s body. The remaining body parts, including the chest and internal organs are grasped and pulled out, disconnecting them from the head. The grasping clamp is then inserted once again to grab and crush the baby’s skull, so it can be removed. The slaughtered and mutilated body is then disposed of, thrown away like garbage. This is the procedure referred to as being a “woman’s right.”
Students from Buckhannon-Upshur High School voiced their opinions on the matter.
Blake Williams stated, “Abortion is wrong and should be against the law. I do not believe that it is a constitutional right, but believe that when our forefathers crafted the Constitution, they did not want people to be able to murder their children. I think that states should be able to regulate abortion to any extent considering it is not mentioned in the Constitution. I definitely believe that life starts at conception, and that fetuses can feel pain. Pro-choice groups are hateful and very adamant about their beliefs.”
John Antolini said, “My opinion on abortion is that it is an inalienable right, it should be free, it should be safer, and should be unregulated. I believe that it is a Constitutional right. According to Roe vs. Wade, it should be accessible of course, it’s a constitutional right, it should be legal, it has been for over 30 years but there have been some attempts in the state government and in the national government recently to try in stop it. States should not have the power to regulate abortion. I’ve heard of pro-life groups harming women and shaming them by going into women’s clinics and protesting them for no reason! They start shouting at them, and start calling them every name they can think of.”
If you search for a news story where pro-life advocates attack abortion activists, you will discover that it very hard to find; however, it has been very common for pro-choice activists to brutally assault pro-life individuals. Research shows that there have been more attacks on pro-life advocates by pro-choice activists, than attacks on pro-choice advocates by pro-life advocates, yet they are the ones who claim to be the victims.  Pro-choice activists claim that a fetus is not a living human. From the Latin, fetus means offspring, so to be clear, the majority of people on both sides agree that it is a human. Now, if this human is non-living, why does it have a heartbeat and is able to move and grow? Dead corpses are non-living, incapable of movement, and do not have a beating heart; fetuses are quite the opposite. So, as you can see, the progressive argument that unborn babies are non-living does not make any sense.  The problem is that many Americans no longer look at life as being valuable. Rather than regarding it as being priceless, it is considered worthless and replaceable. When a society has no problem taking the life of another for personal conveniences, it shows that not only is it full of barbarity, but corrupted with a deranged type of selfishness.

Poll: Americans Don’t Want To Air Strike Syria

According to a new poll conducted by CNN, the majority of Americans do not want to air strike Syria under any of the current circumstances. CNN reporters state that only 27% of Americans would favor U.S. air strikes in Syria if a resolution failed to receive congressional authorization. If a resolution was passed by congress, 43% of Americans would favor the decision, with 55% still in opposition.
Students at Buckhannon-Upshur High School expressed their views on the matter.
“We shouldn’t get involved in Syria. It’s not our business. If they want to fight their own people, let them do it. It could start a war and create more trouble for America. Why should we get involved in the business of another country? President Obama should not act without Congressional authorization; to do so would be a dictatorship,” said Dalton Hyre, freshman at B-UHS.
“Yes, we should air strike Syria. If we just stand around and do nothing, it could start World War III,” stated Kat Newton, senior at B-UHS.
The congress is expected to vote on air striking Syria within the next couple of weeks.
